When you catch someone spreading false claims to a large audience, the goal is to get them to refute your argument, admit they were wrong, or otherwise advance the discourse. You say your interactions with Darryl were polite, but to my eyes you came off as somewhat pushy and unsympathetic. In a normal business, none of that would matter. Someone conducting themselves with a minimal amount of professionalism would look past any issues of "tone" or whatever, and actually send a reasonable response to your inquiry. However, this is not a normal business; this is social media. If Darryl can ignore your inconvenient questions without suffering a hit to his credibility in the eyes of his fans, that is what he will do (and exactly what he did).
By being pushy an annoying, you gave him an easy cop out.
