The picture of you at the game made me laugh hard. Thanks.

Me too. My yearly subscription just paid for itself. MT there, wearing that face, at the lily white hockey game, honoring police, with paid seats ..... Juneteenth ... omg priceless. High comedy.

Better and more insightful about America and its politics than anything that I could could read in the NYT.

The adoption of this holiday has certainly been greeted with a rousing .... yawn. Nothing like when MLK day was established. Weird. I think it could have something to do with the constant over the top pandering about anything to do with race. Most people are tired and worn out by it.

I work in the african american neighborhood High School. Juneteenth fell flat. The usual suspects made some clucking noises, no one paid attention, and by 930AM that morning all was quiet.

CNNisFakeNews's avatar

They could have called it something like emancipation day or even Juneteenth day. But nope. They named it basically a another Independence Day. And this day will be again used by politicians to pander.

Juneteenth commemorates a very specific moment in Texas history and it's important to remember. I look forward to inviting the Majority Leader to future observances of other Texas holidays in New York, such as San Jacinto Day, Texas Independence Day, and Confederate Memorial Day.

With the possible exception of your road trip last year, this may be my favorite thing you've written. Ain't that America.

Haha, sweet score on the hockey tickets and great question to ask THE MAJORITY LEADER! I wonder if at some deep partially hidden level of his mind, did the question actually make him wonder ?

CNNisFakeNews's avatar

Nope. These people spout empty rhetoric without any sense of what words actually mean. Words like “democracy”, “unity and healing”, “bipartisan”, “unpresidential”, “systemic _____”, “conspiracy theorist”, “alt right” etc have zero substance behind them.

There is a scene from one of my fav movies, "Lone Star" I often think about in this context of where people start to believe their own bullshit. Chris Cooper's deputy is gonna run for Sheriff and support what the local businesses all want, a bigger / newer jail even though its not really needed. And Cooper asks him, "do you think we need a new jail" and the deputy says with a big smile, "Well, Sam, thats a complicated question" .... And Cooper laughs and says "you're gonna make a fine sheriff"

When all the trillionaire corporations with shitty hiring, firing and slave labour practices, big tech, big pharma, late night tv hosts, academia, Hollywood with major pedo and sexual harassment problems, wall street, military industrial complex etc support your movement about “fighting power”, you may wanna walk to your bathroom and look in the mirror Chuck. Revolution has corporate sponsors this time!

Love your sense of humor in your articles.

Great piece!

Only 50 people to hear the Majority Leader drone on about addressing the white supremacist most serious threat to our nation in our time. For contrast, use a non-google search engine to find Mike Lyndell talking in Florida the day before to a venue of thousands about the 2020 election. Michael here created (maybe unknowingly?) yet another anecdote that confirms what us election deniers see every day. Is it really true that 5 million more voted for Biden than Obama? really? Even when hockey playoff tickets cannot get the Dem's to participate?

CNNisFakeNews's avatar

5 million? You are mistaken. They want us to believe that Biden got 12 million more “real” votes that Obama lmfao. Most popular president in history. I am still wondering when some reporter will actually ask Biden how does it feel to get 12 million more votes than Obama while barely getting any views on youtube despite YouTube doing everything to shove him down people’s throats.

correction noted. I can't remember the actual number any better than how to spell Lindell.

Today I read an editorial by Eric Swalwell claiming that we needed a continuing Mueller investigation of Donald Trump for abuse of power. This time, apparently, for obstruction, although I think I remember that from the past investigations. Apparently we don't want heavy-handed government, which would use the justice system for its own ends, back again. In the meantime Schumer et al will fight the power!

CNNisFakeNews's avatar

I am loving all the unity and healing and tolerance coming from the democrats!

Nice Gotcha question, there. There's no wiggle room ; only possible response is a non-sequiter.

So to get all of Michael’s content we have to sign up for two services?

It's an entirely separate form of content -- there's no livestreaming functionality on Substack. Nonetheless I will be posting excerpts on my YouTube channel

Sometimes virtue is its own reward. Sometimes it actually generates a tangible reward. Make the effort to attend another dispiriting political event. End up with great seats to a superb Stanley Cup semi-final playoff game. I'm a Habs fan, and I don't really have a preference in the other semi-final, but it has been very good hockey to watch.

I regret not reading this when it was current. This is what truthful journalism actually sounds like. Regardless whether you are happy about it or not.
