policy is the only thing left that matters. Trump's stance on bringing the war to an end with negotiations is the correct path. end of story.

Couldn't care less.

It's actually great that this happened. EU needs to be absolutely smacked the hell down to wake up and start remilitarizing. US should NOT be respected whatsoever, it was always an imperial bully, just like Russia.

Z did what he had to do. His country goes FIRST for him, as US goes first for Amerimutts.

Complete kayfabe. zelensky is a professionally trained entertainer and President trump fashions himself the same. There's no doubt zelensky and president Trump agreed to the parameters of their false debate in advance. Vice president Vance is new to the game and overacted his role. the heatedness of their mutual disagreement pushed the limits of Zelensky's ESL comprehension compared to the native language preparedness of his improv partners.

The lesson for anyone watching this is as follows: In any negotiation, if you are not certain how your remarks will be taken, SHUT YOUR MOUTH. Trump has, before the Vance interjection, already committed to continuing sending military aid to Ukraine. This situation is very similar to a sales situation. Once the customer has said, "Yes, I am giving you the contract (business, order, etc.) you have one, and only one move. Shut your mouth, look at your watch, and say, "Thank you very much. I enjoyed our meeting. Now, we have a plane to catch and though we hate to rush off, we appreciate your awarding us the business." Stand up, shake their hand and leave before they can change their mind. Not complicated.

Seeing the whole press event I got the impression that some journalist and Zelensky had the instruction to press the security agreement agenda. Trump answered the same questions many times- he would first secure a ceasefire, then there could be talks of security agreements. Zelensky then tried to push a lot of his propaganda in front of the media in order to try to exact some concessions from Trump, he mentioned many times that Putin could not be trusted- as he had not been trustworthy in all the other talks, showing pictures of ill treated Ukrainian soldiers and so on. Some members of the press (those who did not come there to tongue bathe the president) also pushed for Trump to align himself with Ukraine in the conference- all in all I found it timely when Vance stepped in and called for a return to diplomacy, and called out Zelensky for trying to litigate in front of the media- because that was exactly my own perception of the event as it unfolded.

In my own country, neighbor to Russia, the headlines were all about how Trump and Vance bullied Zelensky. It’s a farce. It seems my idiot government wants ww3, with no regard to our proximity to the country that the world’s largest nuclear power will aim their warheads towards.

Frightening the lack of ability of the host to defuse the situation, which rises the question whose ability to speak nuanced is worse.

Zelensky probably felt quite uncomfortable about the sellout demanded from him. From all viewpoints, Zelensky and Ukraine would be far better off by cutting out the middlemen and talk to Russia directly. Arguably, the Maidan was a huge mistake. The Maidan was, as we may remember, about associating with the EU, which for one came to naught and secondly was against the will of most Ukrainians, albeit by a small margin.

Michael, I'm confused. Why do you say the proposed European security forces would be NATO? I thought Vance, Rubio, and Trump have all said that they want Europe to send in troops to secure the peace deal, but they would explicitly NOT be covered by Article 5 of NATO. So my understanding is if any shooting starts it does not pull in the rest of NATO automatically. I could see the argument that the troops will mostly be using NATO weapons, gear, training, tactics, etc. but legally...crucially...not be considered NATO.

Pls do research. Ukraine agreed to become a US colony 35 yrs ago, has been kept alive only by billions of US tax dollars. In 2014 US violently overthrew Ukr's elected government & installed US puppets, eg, "Yats is the guy." US designated Russia a "permanent bad guy" 81 yrs ago in 1944 via Truman. In 1945 Truman dropped 2 nuclear bombs on civilians. In 1946 Truman fired his Sec. of Commerce for giving a speech advocating detente w. Russia. Why? Russia had just lost 25 million lives defeating Hitler. In 1990s when Russia was newly independent US elites plundered Russia & left it for dead. Putin saved his country at death's door. Russia citizens strongly support Putin. Why would US--utterly without provocation--insist Russia is permanent enemy? Answer: To use it as an excuse to bleed US taxpayers to death and prevent needed attention on their own country. US has tried to overthrow 57+ governments since WWII. Pls look up "Domino Theory."

Too bad that wasn't current Kiev mayor and former world heavyweight boxing champ Vitali Klitschko, six foot seven inches tall and very mean, sitting there instead of little Zelensky. How tough would mascara boy Vance and fat pig Trump have acted then? Vitali has a short temper and might have broken Vance in two. ,Ukrainians are genuinely tough people, while Yanks are mostly soft big mouths.
